Pitching duo combine for no-hitter
A no-hit performance by a pair of pitchers and playing on a newly renovated infield highlighted Sportsworld’s season-opening victory Tuesday.
Laguna Beach’s iconic Riddle Field has never looked better, thanks to transplanted infield grass from Angel Stadium. As impressive as the field, was the Sportsworld pitching duo of Blake Pivaroff and Kent Cebrerros combined to no-hit Morgan Stanley and led Sportsworld to an 8-0 victory in Laguna Beach Little League AAA Division action.
Pivaroff struck out 10 batters in five innings. Morgan Stanley’s Nolan Smith managed to get on base with a walk but was caught stealing home, thanks to a fine defensive play by Sportsworld catcher Dillon Gaboury. Cebrerros completed the no-hitter and sent down the three batters he faced in the sixth inning.
In addition to his lights-out pitching performance, Pivaroff led the Sportsworld offensive by going three for three. Christian Holm and Jett Rocha also notched hits for Sportsworld.
Josh McManus pitched two shutout innings with four strikeouts to start the season for Morgan Stanley.
