Pitz wins at Salt Creek Beach

Laguna Beach senior Taylor Pitz won the Open Women’s division Sunday at a National Scholastic Surfing Assn. Southwest Conference Open Season competition at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point. It was the fourth division win for Pitz in eight open division contests of the Southwest Conference season.

Pitz, the Open Women’s division ratings leader, posted a two-wave score of 11.77 to edge out Harley Taich of La Jolla, who scored an 11.63. Kulia Doherty (8.03) of San Clemente was third and Frankie Harrer (6.87) of Malibu fourth.

The next Southwest Conference Open Season contest is Saturday and Sunday at the Huntington Beach Pier.
