High School Roundup: Marina girls’ volleyball opens its season with win over Ocean View

The Marina High girls’ volleyball team swept Ocean View 25-21, 25-13, 25-18 in a nonleague game featuring two Huntington Beach Union High School District teams on Wednesday at Ocean View High.

Jordan Packer had seven aces for Marina (1-0), which will compete in the Pacifica Tournament this weekend.

Ocean View dropped to 0-3 overall.

Saddleback 3, Los Amigos 0: The Lobos dropped to 0-3 overall following Wednesday’s nonleague match at home.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Mater Dei 200, Edison 201: The Monarchs clipped the Chargers to earn a split of a home-and-home set on Wednesday in a nonleague match at Mile Square Golf Course.

Senior Emma Thipavong and sophomore Lauren Lee earned co-medalist honors for Mater Dei, carding rounds of two-over-par 38.

Edison (1-1) had defeated Mater Dei 197-204 on Tuesday when the teams teed off at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 270, Estancia 277: Samantha Davidson, a junior for the Tritons, paced all competitors with a round of 10-over-par 45 on Wednesday in a nonleague match on the Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Country Club.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Fountain Valley 211, Long Beach Poly 229: The Barons earned a road victory in a season-opening match over the Jackrabbits on Wednesday at Recreation Park Golf Course.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 16, Crean Lutheran 2: The Lightning came away with a blowout victory over the visiting Saints on Wednesday in a nonleague season opener.

Junior Arden Stobart dropped just one game across three sets of singles for Sage Hill. Seniors Kana Byrd and Ava Herin, who teamed up in doubles, surrendered a total of three games in sweeping their matches.
