High School Roundup: Locals compete at CIF State cross-country championships

Making its first appearance as a program at the CIF State cross-country championships, the Huntington Beach High School girls’ cross-country team finished in 13th place in the Division I race at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Sophomore Makenzie McRae led the Oilers with an area-best time of 18 minutes 29.2 seconds among local girls running at the state meet, which put her in 27th place in the race.

Seniors Claire Lewis (62nd, 19:08.4) and Quinn Roldan (82nd, 19:33.1), sophomore Andrea Linggi-Perez (114th, 20:06.7) and junior Luna Centeno (129th, 20:29.9) filled out the scoring quintet for Huntington Beach.

In the Division III girls’ race, Corona del Mar sophomore Melisse Djomby-Enyawe pulled off the best finish positionally among all local competitors at the meet. The Sea Kings’ state-meet individual qualifier placed 18th in the race with a time of 18:38.0.

Sage Hill’s boys were 18th in the Division V race. Junior Jack Johnston (81st, 17:40.0), senior Jason Li (97th, 17:53.3), senior Max Perin (104th, 17:58.3), junior Brooks Orradre (145th, 18:47.6) and senior William Alexander (150th, 18:56.4) were the five scoring runners for the Lightning.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 61, Portola 43: Emily Eadie had 17 points, 16 rebounds and six assists to lead the Lightning in the championship game of the CdM Tip-off Tournament on Saturday.

Kat Righeimer added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals for Sage Hill (7-1). Zoie Lamkin also had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Kiana Hosseinzadeh chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Isabel Gomez provided four points, six assists, five rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals for the Lightning.
