High School Roundup: Costa Mesa girls’ volleyball wins at Santa Ana
Lorelei Hobbis had 23 kills, 15 digs and three service aces to lead the Costa Mesa High School girls’ volleyball team to a 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20 win over Santa Ana on Thursday in an Orange Coast League match on the road.
Lucero Islas added 10 kills, six aces and three digs for the Mustangs (11-3, 2-0), who have won six in a row.
The Battle for the Bell is fast approaching, with Costa Mesa set to play host to rival Estancia (10-1, 1-1) on Thursday.
Calvary Chapel 3, Estancia 1: Estancia was handed its first loss of the season in Thursday’s Orange Coast League contest at home, dropping the match 25-20, 22-25, 25-11, 25-13.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Estancia 11, Godinez 7: The host Eagles improved to 4-1 overall with Thursday’s victory.
Eagles coach Mike Moorewood said the victory was keyed by Estancia’s doubles teams.
Estancia opens Orange Coast League play at Orange on Tuesday.
GIRLS’ GOLF
Westminster 252, Costa Mesa 288: Sydney Ngo was the medalist for the visiting Mustangs with a one-over-par 37 at Meadowlark Golf Course, but Costa Mesa dropped Thursday’s Orange Coast League match.
Costa Mesa (4-2) will tee off against Ocean View (3-2) on Wednesday at Costa Mesa Country Club. The Seahawks narrowly defeated the Mustangs in the teams’ previous meeting 250-256.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Laguna Beach 12, La Jolla The Bishop’s 10: William Kelly had four goals to lead the Breakers on Thursday in a South Coast Tournament game at Costa Mesa High School.
Holden Seybold also scored twice for Laguna Beach (7-3).
Laguna Beach 11, Edison 5: Sai Bassett scored three goals for the Breakers and Cade Anderton had two goals to lead Laguna Beach to another win in the South Coast Tournament at Costa Mesa High.
Tommy Kelly provided two goals for Edison (4-2).
