High School Roundup: Ocean View football falls in coach Luis Nunez’s return to sideline

The Ocean View High School football team suffered a second straight loss on Friday night, as visiting Katella earned an 18-0 victory in the teams’ nonleague game.

The Seahawks were missing their starting quarterback.

Ocean View coach Luis Nunez said that Michael Da Rosa filled in valiantly, as starting quarterback Hunter Arce missed the game with a shoulder injury.

Nunez, who coached in his first game of the season for Ocean View (1-2) after missing the first two because he contracted COVID-19, said that senior middle linebacker Jonathan Gonzalez excelled defensively Friday night for the Seahawks.

Ocean View plays at Laguna Beach on Friday night.

Orange 59, Estancia 6: The Eagles (1-2) were routed in their Orange Coast League opener Friday night at home.

Estancia hosts Santa Ana in continued league action next Friday.

SOFTBALL

Huntington Beach 8, Fountain Valley 0: Devyn Greer, Zoe Prystajko and Emma Francisco combined on a one-hit shutout for the Oilers, compiling a strikeout total of 15 in Saturday’s nonleague game at home.

Mikayla Carman and Greer each homered for Huntington Beach (3-0).

Fountain Valley dropped to 1-3 overall.

El Toro 2, Newport Harbor 0: Camryn Smith had a double and two runs batted in to lead the visiting Chargers in Saturday’s nonleague game.

Briana Bozych tossed seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks for El Toro.

Eliana Gottlieb had a double for Newport Harbor (3-1), and Kori Villeneuve also had a base hit.

BASEBALL

Newport Harbor 10, Trabuco Hills 1: Jackson Gilles and Troy Christensen led the visiting Sailors, driving in two runs apiece in Saturday’s nonleague game.

Will O’Neil threw four shutout innings to earn the win, allowing two hits, walking four and striking out five for Newport Harbor (2-0).

Marina 10, Edison 4: David Mashburn broke the game open with a grand slam in the sixth inning, leading the host Vikings in a nonleague game on Saturday.

Trevor Lanksbury struck out four over three innings in relief to earn the win for Marina (2-1-1). He also had a two-run home run in the contest. Chad Lux added three hits, including two doubles.

Edison is now 1-2 overall.
