Former CdM quarterback Ethan Garbers transfers to UCLA
A former local high school football standout is moving much closer to home.
Ethan Garbers, who starred as quarterback at Corona del Mar, announced via Twitter Tuesday that he has joined the UCLA football program.
“I’m home ... WESTWOOD,” he wrote in the social media post.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback signed with the University of Washington during his senior year at CdM, but he entered the transfer portal last week after his first season with the Huskies.
Garbers led CdM to a 16-0 season as a senior, as the Sea Kings captured the CIF Southern Section Division 3 and the CIF State Division I-A championships. He threw for 5,035 yards and 71 touchdowns that year, and he added a team-high 12 rushing touchdowns.
His brother, Chase, was the starting quarterback as a redshirt junior for Pac-12 rival Cal this fall.
