Orange County Soccer Club suffers first defeat versus Las Vegas Lights FC
Orange County Soccer Club surrendered two late goals and suffered its first setback in a 3-1 loss against Las Vegas Lights FC on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.
Blake Frischknecht scored the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute, and Junior Sandoval found the back of the net in stoppage time to cap a string of three unanswered goals for the hosts.
Ramon Del Campo had the other goal for Las Vegas, and Rashawn Dally supplied a pair of assists.
It was also the first time this season that Orange County has allowed multiple goals in a match.
While most high school students in Orange County are at home staring at a computer screen, having begun the school year with distance learning, athletes in the Huntington Beach Union High School District started working out on campus this week.
Aodhan Quinn scored on a penalty kick just 12 minutes into the contest, giving Orange County a lead that would last just six minutes before Del Campo tied the score.
Frederik Due made six saves in his return to the net for Orange County. Edward Delgado stopped seven shots for Las Vegas.
Kobi Henry, a 16-year-old center back and U.S. Youth National Team player, made his first professional start for Orange County in the match.
Through Tuesday’s results, Orange County (4-1-2, 14 points) remains in second place in Group B of the United Soccer League Championship standings. Phoenix Rising FC (6-1-2, 20 points) is in first place, and Las Vegas (2-3-2, eight points) is in last place within the five-team group.
Orange County returns home to face San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday at Irvine’s Orange County Great Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
