Newport Beach native Jonathan Klinsmann, a soccer goalkeeper and the son of former United States men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann, has signed to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Klinsmann, 23, was signed from Swiss Super League club St. Gallen on Thursday. He is on a Major League Soccer roster for the first time, after previously playing with Hertha Berlin from 2017-2019 in the Bundesliga.

“Jonathan is a young goalkeeper with valuable experience playing in Germany and Switzerland while representing his country on various levels,” Galaxy coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto said in a statement. “We think he can continue to progress as a member of the LA Galaxy. We look forward to strengthening our goalkeeper position with another talented player.”
