Newport Harbor’s Levi Darrow, Edison’s Jackie Kwok share Surf League boys’ basketball MVP award
Newport Harbor High junior guard Levi Darrow and Edison junior guard Jackie Kwok have shared Surf League boys’ basketball MVP honors after helping their respective teams split the league title.
Darrow averaged 11 points and four assists per game for the Sailors (22-7, 4-2 in league), who won a share of their third straight league title. Newport Harbor lost to Eastvale Roosevelt 56-44 in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.
Kwok averaged 8.3 points, four rebounds and a team-best 3.9 assists per game for Edison (17-12, 4-2), which won a share of its fourth straight league crown. The Chargers lost 74-58 at Fairmont Prep in the Division 2AA first round.
Newport Harbor senior forwards Luke Bashore and Robbie Spooner were also first-team all-league selections, as were Edison junior forward Connor Collins, junior guard Bradley Luna and junior guard Luke Serven. Corona del Mar senior guard Jack Stone also earned a first-team nod.
Bashore averaged seven points and six rebounds a game, while Spooner averaged a team-best 13 points per contest along with five rebounds.
Collins averaged team-best totals of 15 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Luna averaged 8.6 points and 4.2 rebounds, while Serven scored 10.5 points and dished out 3.1 assists per contest.
Stone led CdM (16-11, 1-5) with 23.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. The Sea Kings failed to qualify for the Division 2AA playoffs.
