Newport Harbor High senior thrower Aidan Elbettar put himself in exclusive company on Wednesday in a Wave League boys’ track and field dual meet against Marina at home.

Elbettar threw a personal-best mark of 200 feet, eight inches to win the discus throw, eclipsing the 200-foot threshold for the first time. Among high school throwers, that mark trails only Maurice Westmoreland of Klein Forest (Texas), who has thrown 204-6 this season.

Elbettar also achieved a lifetime-best mark of 63-8 in winning the shotput. He became the national leader in the event.
