High School Roundup: Huntington Beach baseball defeats Loyola in Newport Elks Tournament
Dominic Ventimiglia struck out six and allowed four hits in a complete game to lead the Huntington Beach High baseball team to a 7-2 win over Los Angeles Loyola on Monday in a Newport Elks Tournament Frank Lerner Division game at home.
Joe Yost had two hits and four runs batted in for the Oilers (4-0). Jake Vogel and Jag Burden each drove in a run.
Huntington Beach, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, hosts No. 5 Studio City Harvard-Westlake in the tournament on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Laguna Beach 11, Hemet 0: Shea Blanchard had three RBIs to lead the host Breakers on Monday in a Newport Elks Tournament Costa Mesa Division game.
Jeremy Hayes knocked in a pair of runs for Laguna Beach (5-0). Aidan Booth, Christian Holm and Aiden Kidd had two hits apiece.
Eric Silva struck out five over 2 2/3 innings for the Breakers, who resume tournament play at home on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Costa Mesa 7, Rancho Alamitos 1: Matthew Anderson drove in two runs to lead the host Mustangs on Monday in a Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game.
Costa Mesa’s Riley Mitchell had two hits, and Luis Munoz drove in a run.
The Mustangs (1-1) play a tournament game at Oxford Academy on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Trabuco Hills 5, Corona del Mar 0: Nico DiFerdinando had a walk in the Sea Kings’ Foothill Division game of the Newport Elks Tournament at home Monday.
CdM (2-2) travels for a tournament game at Paramount on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
University 8, Estancia 6: The Eagles dropped to 2-2 after Monday’s Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game on the road.
Estancia plays at Artesia in a tournament game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Santa Ana 11, Los Amigos 0: Raul Sanchez had a hit for the visiting Lobos, who fell to 0-4 following Monday’s Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game.
Los Amigos is at home against Saddleback Valley Christian in a tournament game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Aliso Niguel 19, Edison 6: Blakely Malpass had three goals for the visiting Chargers on Monday in a nonleague match.
Sydney Hoggard, Rylee Siegel and Gwen Ontiveros each had one goal for Edison (2-1). Zoe Soukup made 10 saves, and Natalie Halpin had an assist.
