High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian O.C. boys’ basketball edges rival Fairmont Prep

Judah Brown had 18 points and 15 rebounds, and the Pacifica Christian Orange County High boys’ basketball team beat rival Fairmont Prep 62-59 on the road Tuesday in a San Joaquin League game.

Houston Mallette had 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Pacifica Christian (14-4, 2-0 in league). Josh Sims had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tritons had lost to Fairmont Prep (12-6, 2-1) in four close games last year, including in the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA title game and the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III quarterfinals.

Pacifica Christian, ranked No. 4 in the Division 2A poll, plays at Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.

Ocean View 67, Garden Grove 55: The Seahawks moved into outright first place in the Golden West League after Tuesday’s road win.

Ocean View is now 13-8 overall and 3-0 in the league.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 3, Corona del Mar 1: The Barons handed the host Sea Kings their first loss of the season Tuesday in a Sunset Conference crossover match at Bonita Canyon Park.

Micaela Villafuerte scored twice in the second half for Fountain Valley (9-7-2), and Samantha Escobar had a free kick goal in the first half.

Megan Chelf scored a first-half goal for CdM (10-1-2).

The Barons, ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division 2, host Laguna Beach on Thursday in a Wave League opener.

CdM, ranked No. 6 in Division 1, hosts Huntington Beach on Thursday in its Surf League opener.

Huntington Beach 4, Laguna Beach 0: Summer Stewart had a goal and two assists for the Oilers in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at home.

Huntington Beach improved to 8-5-6 overall, while Laguna Beach is now 4-4-3.

Edison 0, Marina 0: Alyssa Plotkin made three saves for the visiting Chargers in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.

Edison is now 8-3-3, while Marina is 3-7-3.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 6, Rowland Heights Southlands Christian 0: Leila Bahnsen scored four goals for the Tritons in Tuesday’s San Joaquin League match at Vanguard University.

Brooklyn Motske had a goal and three assists for Pacifica Christian (7-2, 2-1 in league), and Maggie O’Callaghan added a goal and an assist.

Goalkeeper Jo Snyder secured her fifth shutout for the Tritons, who play at St. Margaret’s on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Los Alamitos 4, Newport Harbor 0: The Sailors, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, dropped the Sunset Conference crossover road match against the No. 3 Griffins on Tuesday.

Newport Harbor (13-3-3) opens Wave League play at home against Marina on Thursday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 58, Fountain Valley 49: Trasara Alexander led the host Sea Kings with 30 points in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

Alexander made five three-pointers in the contest for CdM (17-5). Makena Tomlinson had 10 points.

Kat Luu had 12 points and three assists for Fountain Valley (11-11). Caitlin Okawa and Zoe Ziegler each had 10 points.

Los Alamitos 50, Newport Harbor 28: Willa Rath had 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the visiting Sailors on Tuesday in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

Cydney Jover added six points and four steals, and Genevieve Perry had six points, four steals and two blocks for Newport Harbor (10-10).

The Sailors have lost five in a row heading into their Wave League opener at home against Marina on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Huntington Beach 62, Laguna Beach 12: Cassidee Kinslow led the host Oilers with 14 points in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

Alyssa Real added 12 points, and Madeline Krause chipped in with 10 points for Huntington Beach (15-5).

Laguna Beach is now 9-12.

Edison 34, Marina 33: Taylor Fullbright had 12 points and eight rebounds for the visiting Chargers on Tuesday in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

Sophie Decker contributed seven points and four steals, and Madison Copeland provided five points and 10 rebounds for Edison (12-9).

Marina dropped to 4-16.

Garden Grove 60, Ocean View 27: The visiting Seahawks fell to 7-14 overall and 1-2 in the Golden West League following Tuesday’s action.

Connelly 41, Brethren Christian 16: The visiting Warriors (2-8) dropped Tuesday’s Express League opener.

WRESTLING

Marina 38, Edison 36: The Vikings can finish no worse than second place in the Surf League with Tuesday’s road victory.

Marina finished 2-1 in the league dual meets, while Edison was 1-2 in such contests.

Fountain Valley (2-0) will travel to Los Alamitos (0-2) on Wednesday, as the Barons look to go undefeated in the Surf League.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 10, Fountain Valley 4: Sydni White and Cassie Corrigan each scored four goals for the Eagles in Tuesday’s nonleague match at Costa Mesa High.

Goalkeeper Giannina Bauer made nine saves for Estancia (13-6).

Fountain Valley fell to 6-14.
