College Roundup: Collin Welp helps UC Irvine men’s basketball top Eastern Michigan

Redshirt sophomore forward Collin Welp had a career-high 31 points for the UC Irvine men’s basketball team in Saturday’s 77-56 nonconference win over Eastern Michigan at Bren Events Center.

Welp hit 12 of 14 shots, including seven of nine three-pointers, for UC Irvine (5-4). Eyassu Worku had 11 points and four assists, and Evan Leonard added nine points.

The Anteaters host Cal Baptist on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

College of Idaho 88, Vanguard 77: Kieran Hayward scored 20 points for the Lions, including six three-pointers, in Saturday’s home game as part of the Lions’ Thanksgiving tournament.

Aziz Seck had 14 points and Michael Magee added 13 points for No. 15 Vanguard (4-4), which hosts Westcliff University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

San Diego Miramar 96, Orange Coast 57: Andres Ortega and Jonathan Ileleji each scored 10 points for the Pirates in Saturday’s Palomar Thanksgiving tournament game at Palomar College.

Orange Coast (1-7) concludes the tournament with a game against host Palomar on Sunday at 5 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 76, Talladega (Ala.) 74: Tristen Rollon scored 25 points for the Lions in the NAIA Rotary Classic game Saturday in Jackson, Tenn.

Sierra Vaglica added 18 points for Vanguard (3-1).

North Alabama 88, UC Irvine 60: Anteaters junior Dani Guglielmo matched her season-high with 12 points Saturday in the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic game Saturday in Denver.

Chloe Webb had 11 points and four rebounds for UC Irvine (3-4), which hosts Portland State on Monday at 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Irvine Valley 3, Orange Coast 0: The No. 9-seeded Pirates were swept 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 by the top-seeded Lasers in the quarterfinals of the Southern California Regionals on Saturday at Irvine Valley College.

Orange Coast finished its season 19-7.
