Week 11 High School Football Preview: Ocean View vs. El Monte

When/where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at El Monte High

Key Seahawks: So. RB/CB Anthony Ramirez (142 carries for 886 yards and eight TDs; four catches for 46 yards; 38 tackles and one INT); Sr. QB Braden Crabtree (153 of 233 passing for 1,964 yards, 18 TDs and seven INTs; six rushing TDs); Sr. DE Josh Roberts (72 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries); Sr. WR/FS Brandon Alcaraz (63 catches for 983 yards and 10 TDs)

Key Lions: Sr. RB/CB JJ Reyes (30 carries for 321 yards and five TDs; 10 tackles and one INT); Sr. RB/DB Davon Booth (134 carries for 1,708 yards and 22 TDs; 15 catches for 474 yards and eight TDs; 22 tackles, five INTs and one punt block); Jr. QB Joseph Herrera (14 of 29 passing for 451 yards, nine TDs and one INT; nine carries for 38 yards and four TDs); Sr. RB/CB Abel Cueva (95 carries for 1,071 yards and 15 TDs; one catch for 76 yards and one TD; two INTs)

Breakdown: Ocean View (7-3), the Pac 4 League runner-up, opens the CIF Southern Section Division 12 playoffs against top-seeded El Monte (10-0), the Mission Valley League champion … It will be a tall order for Ocean View to pull off the upset, but Seahawks coach Luis Nuñez figures to have no problem motivating his team for this one. Last season, the Seahawks upended Western to earn a share of the Pac 4 League crown, only to have a letdown as the No. 4 seed in a 30-14 loss to Irvine to open the Division 11 playoffs … The Lions feature a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Booth and Cueva. El Monte averaged 47.8 points per game, which could force the Seahawks into an offensive shootout if they want to stay close … Alcaraz, who surpassed Phillip Smith for Ocean View’s single-season receptions record last week, could be called upon to carry the load again.
