Brady Gardner threw a second-half touchdown to Jonah Del Rosario as the Huntington Beach High football team beat Fountain Valley 9-0 on Friday night in a Sunset League finale at Westminster High.

Freshman kicker Jad Othman added a fourth-quarter field goal for Huntington Beach (2-8, 1-4 in league). Coach Brett Brown also praised the defensive line play of Brandon Bova, Michael McCormick, Josh Toafa and Talin Cooper.

Brown said the Oilers, who finished fifth in the six-team league, will apply for an at-large berth into the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. He said his team has a good shot to get in due to the relative strength of the Sunset League.
