College Roundup: Golden West men’s soccer stays unbeaten in conference with win over Irvine Valley
Martin Garcia-Sandoval scored two goals and assisted on another, helping the Golden West College men’s soccer team stay unbeaten in the Orange Empire Conference with Friday’s 3-1 victory over visiting Irvine Valley.
Eric Barriga added a goal for the Rustlers (6-2-7, 3-0-4 in conference), while Bryan Zavala made five saves.
Fullerton 2, Orange Coast 0: The Pirates dropped to 9-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in Orange Empire Conference play after Friday’s road match.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Vanguard 3, The Master’s 2: Kamelah Noel finished with 16 kills, four digs, one block and one service ace, leading the Lions to a 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-18 comeback win in Friday’s Golden State Athletic Conference road match.
Tobi Sanders contributed 13 kills, seven digs, one block and one ace for Vanguard (21-6, 10-4 in conference). Callista Noel had 42 assists, seven digs, three kills, two blocks and one ace.
Golden West 3, Orange Coast 1: The Rustlers earned a 25-17, 11-25, 25-22, 25-20 victory in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road Friday.
Golden West improved to 11-5 overall and 5-5 in the conference, keeping it in fifth place and two matches back of the third-place Pirates (14-4, 7-3).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Golden West 1, Irvine Valley 0: Kennedy Chavez’s goal in the 26th minute lifted the visiting Rustlers in an Orange Empire Conference match on Friday.
Ashlee Garcia had four saves in the shutout for Golden West (6-6-2, 3-4-1 in conference).
Fullerton 3, Orange Coast 1: Lynette Romero scored on Friday for the host Pirates, who remained winless in their last four Orange Empire Conference matches.
Orange Coast is 5-9-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Golden West 14, Riverside 5: Manuel Augusto had four goals for the host Rustlers, who stayed undefeated in the Orange Empire Conference on Friday.
Golden West improved to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Long Beach 15, Golden West 10: The Rustlers fell to 14-7 after Friday’s match in the Battle at the Beach at Cypress College.
Santa Barbara 12, Orange Coast 5: The Pirates lost for the sixth time in seven matches on Friday at the Battle at the Beach, dropping to 4-12.
