On Dec. 7, at the Lido Theater in Newport Beach, the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will host its annual movie event. This year the club will be screening the Christmastime classic, “Miracle on 34th Street.” What a great way to get in the mood for Christmas.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a food festival sponsored by 14 restaurants. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 and $125 for VIPs with VIP ticket holders, who are entitled to free parking and preferred seating. All ticket holders get a free T-shirt, unlimited food sampling that evening, courtesy of the sponsoring restaurants, admission to the movie and the knowledge that your donation will go toward helping prevent child abuse!

Proceeds from the event go to the prevention of child abuse and other youth activities in the community. Last year alone, the movie event generated $60,000 for the prevention of child abuse, more than $20,000 in scholarships to students and teachers, and more than $5,000 to other charities. To buy tickets or for more information, call (949) 887-6788. Contributions are tax deductible.

Christmas Carol Ball

What began in the mid-1960s as a gathering for caroling of close personal friends, such as John Wayne and Buddy Ebsen has grown into the 44th annual Christmas Carol Ball, one of Orange County’s most anticipated fundraisers that attracts as many as 600 friends, patients, physicians and staff of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

But what has made it such a fundraising blockbuster has been community partnerships. This year’s ball will also benefit Human Options of Orange County.

This is the second year that Dr. Lisa Karamardian is co-chairing the ball with her husband, Vahé. They are joined this year by co-chairs Tyler and Pamela Terry. The Christmas Carol Ball is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11, at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point.

Hosted by the Hoag Hospital Foundation’s 552 Club and the Christmas Carol Ball Committee, the ball has attracted and raised more than $7 million since 1966. Requests for invitations may be made through Laura Nelson at (949) 764-7211 or via e-mail to [email protected]. More information can be found at https://www.ChristmasCarolBall.org.
