Around Town: Newport restaurant holding fundraiser for family
Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store in Newport Beach will hold a fundraiser Wednesday night to help the family of Marc Kaiser find new housing that is handicapped-accessible. Kaiser has been struggling for about a year with hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the brain.
The owners of Sgt. Pepperoni’s said 20% of sales between 6 and 9 p.m. will be donated to the family of five. The restaurant is at 2300 S. Bristol St.

Panel to discuss Fairview Park development
The Newport-Mesa Tea Party will present a panel discussion Thursday about the future of Costa Mesa’s Fairview Park.
Topics will include whether the park should have new development such as sports fields or remain largely untouched. Panel speakers will be Richard Mehren, former chairman of the park’s citizens advisory committee, former city Parks and Recreation Commissioner Dean Abernathy and Ernesto Munoz, Costa Mesa’s public services director.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Halecrest Park Swim and Tennis Club, 3107 Killybrooke Lane, Costa Mesa.

California history is topic of lecture
Historian Tom Osborne will present a California history lecture from a Pacific Rim perspective at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, 1701 Baker St., Costa Mesa.
Osborne is a former history professor and department chairman at Santa Ana College.
The event is presented by Friends of the Costa Mesa Libraries.

Women’s recovery group sets breakfast
New Directions for Women, a Costa Mesa-based women’s treatment center, will hold its seventh annual Circle of Life Breakfast on March 23.
The event will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Balboa Bay Resort, 1221 W. Coast Hwy., Newport Beach.
Leaders of the group will discuss goals and share testimonials of women who have completed the program.
