UFC fighter gets 34 days in jail
Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Ian Gregory McCall was sentenced to 34 days in jail Tuesday after his arrest last week by Laguna Beach detectives.
The sentence is due to probation violations related to his 2010 felony conviction of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, Orange County Superior Court spokeswoman Gwen Vieau said. McCall also must complete 23 days of Caltrans work.
McCall, 28, of Irvine, pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license, which resulted in $300 in fines and one year informal probation, which ends Aug. 20, 2013. It will run concurrently with the formal probation for his felony charge, which ends March 14, 2013, Vieau said.
Laguna Beach police arrested McCall — also known as “Uncle Creepy” by the mixed martial arts community — on an outstanding warrant on Aug. 14., Capt. Jason Kravetz said in an email.
According to Kravetz, Laguna police had been watching McCall as part of an ongoing investigation, and the case is still active.
The Harbor Court warrants were for possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of prescription medication without a valid prescription and driving on a suspended license, Kravetz said.
According to UFC.com, McCall’s last fight was June 8, when he fought Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and lost.
McCall has been granted permission to travel to Las Vegas for work-related purposes, Vieau said.
