Irvine man dies after being found unconscious in H.B. pool

An Irvine man found unresponsive in an apartment complex pool in Huntington Beach on Saturday was later pronounced dead, according to police.

At about 5:50 p.m., Huntington Beach police responded to the Beach & Ocean apartments at 19891 Beach Blvd. after receiving a call of a possible drowning, Officer Jennifer Marlatt said.

Witnesses told police that the 51-year-old man, who was a guest of a resident of the apartment complex, had been swimming laps in the pool. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Marlatt said. His name was not released.

Police believe that an existing medical condition may have contributed to the man’s death, Marlatt said.
