Boyd honored by Woman’s Club
The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach will honor former mayor and current councilman Kelly Boyd during its annual luncheon March 21.
Boyd, who previously organized a golf tournament to raise funds for Laguna Beach High School’s golf teams, asked that proceeds from the luncheon benefit the sport.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at https://www.wclb.org by Monday.
“Kelly Boyd has a great passion for golf and desire to see the game grow among our youth in Laguna,” Coach Scott Finn said in a news release. “His support of our high school program has directly benefited our players and the success they have achieved.”
Boyd, who underwent a stem cell transplant late last year to battle multiple myeloma, a blood cell cancer, said he will seek reelection in November.
“As long as my health stays as it is now, I am planning on running,” Boyd said in the release. “I really enjoy working for the citizens of Laguna Beach. I am a fourth-generation Lagunian and I’m proud to serve the community that I love.”
Thurston Middle School was named for Boyd’s grandmother, Marie Thurston, who taught in the Laguna schools and became principal of Laguna Beach Grade School in 1913. Marie Thurston was also a member of the woman’s club when it was formed in 1922, according to the release.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at 286 St. Ann’s Drive.
