Four-car crash on 405 injures three
Three people were injured, one seriously, in a four-car crash on the southbound 405 Freeway at the Fairview Street offramp in Costa Mesa on Saturday morning.
A car spun out on the rain-soaked road, causing the collision shortly after 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency personnel transported one patient to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with traumatic injuries, said Battalion Chief Tim Vasin of the Costa Mesa Fire Department.
Two others were taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach with minor injuries. A single patient had been trapped inside one of the vehicles.
“We had to use the jaws of life to get him out,” Vasin said.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the area at about 10:40 a.m., saying three lanes were blocked and debris was strewn across all southbound lanes of the freeway.
Vasin said a pickup truck, two four-door sedans and an SUV were involved in the crash.
Lanes were cleared and the SigAlert was lifted by 11:30 a.m.
