Navarro to discuss district priorities
Newport-Mesa Unified Supt. Fred Navarro will discuss the school district’s priorities at the Newport Beach public library Thursday.
Newport-Mesa trustees approved the priorities during Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
Academic goals include implementation of the new Common Core State Standards, which promote critical thinking initiatives in course curriculum, and college preparation standards for students.
Behavioral priorities include the implementation of restorative justice for students, which gives them an opportunity to learn from their errors in judgment and make amends.
The Wake Up! Newport event, sponsored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, will begin with a continental breakfast at 7:15 a.m. followed by the program at 7:45 a.m.
Wake Up! events are a way for community members to meet with legislative and government officials in an effort to stay updated on local, state and federal issues, according to a news release.
