H.B. man charged in sex abuse case
A Huntington Beach man faces a life sentence and lifetime registration as a sex offender if convicted of sexually assaulting a female relative, according to a news release from the Huntington Beach Police Department and the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Jeffrey Scott Jones, 53, a former teacher, was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of continuous sexual abuse. He posted $1 million bail Tuesday and has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Aug. 16 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
According to the statement, Jones is accused of raping a 13-year-old relative on May 4 and 9. He is also accused of sexually assaulting her between Sept. 1, 2012, and April 30, 2013.
Jones was arrested at his home on June 27.
He was an advanced placement English teacher at Libra Academy in Huntington Park during the time of the alleged crimes. Jones worked with children for 27 years while teaching at various schools, including Bell High School in Bell and Gahr High School in Cerritos, according to the statement.
District attorney investigator Paul Carvo and Huntington Beach Police Det. Trent Tunstall are seeking any additional victims.
