Bluebelt photo contest winners named

Laguna Bluebelt held its second annual photo contest, selecting seven winners in two categories, Above Water and Under Water.

The contest was held to celebrate Laguna’s Marine Protected Areas and Underwater Parks Day. This year, Laguna Bluebelt had double the number of entries, representative Jinger Wallace said in an email.

The Under Water winners were: first place, “The Crevice” by Michael Ziegler; second place, “Family Friendly Tidepools” by Bonnie Pelnar; and third place, “Fish Bowl at Deadman’s Reef” by Lindy Yow.

In the Above Water category, the winners were: first place, “King Tide and Sea Grass” by Ron Chilcote; second place, “The Bluebelt” by Mitch Ridder; third place, “Sunset Kayak at Shaw’s Cove” by Dan Stensland; and fourth place, “Tweeting” by Jenny Andrew.

Laguna Bluebelt works to help educate people and encourage them to follow the new regulations that protect the local marine reserves.
