Man found guilty in 2011 fatal stabbing
A man was convicted Wednesday afternoon for fatally stabbing someone almost two years ago at the Hilton Costa Mesa.
An Orange County Superior Court jury found Adam Randy Baker, 25, of Dana Point guilty of second-degree murder and attempted murder with a sentencing enhancement.
Baker committed the city’s first murder of 2011 outside a New Year’s Eve party at the hotel. He got into a fight with Robert Sickles, 27, of Mission Viejo, and his friends after flicking a cigarette at them, prosecutors said previously.
Sickles’ friend, Brian McTeigue, also of Mission Viejo, tried to intervene and was stabbed in the back, police said in 2011.
“Our hearts go out to the families,” prosecutor Matt Murphy said Wednesday.
Baker is set to be sentenced Feb. 4. He faces 23 years to life in prison.
