Teachers from Marina High honored
Marina High School’s Hong Lan “Daisy” McKernan, Jason Flores and Natasha Souders have been recognized for excellence in teaching.
McKernan, a chemistry teacher, was awarded the Region 11 Educator of the Year by the California League of High Schools.
The league nominated McKernan for State Educator of the Year. She will compete with 11 educators from the state. McKernan is a UC Santa Barbara graduate with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a teaching credential from Cal State Long Beach. She is working on her master’s degree in education at Concordia University.
Flores, a history teacher, was named Teacher of the Year by the Huntington Beach Masonic Lodge. Souders, a special education teacher, received a Certificate of Appreciation from the California Retired Teachers Association.
