Ray Fenton named new football coach at Fountain Valley High
Ray Fenton, who guided Cypress to a CIF Southern Section Southern Division title in 2007, has been named Fountain Valley High’s new football coach, the school announced in an email Friday.
The email announcement was titled, “The Return of Ray Fenton to Orange County,” and was sent by Fountain Valley assistant principal Joseph Fraser, the school’s activities director.
Fenton comes to the Barons from Webb Prep in Claremont, where he served as the head football coach and athletic director.
He takes over the FVHS program that John Shipp left after resigning this past season.
Fenton was named NFL High School Coach of the Year in Nevada, and was both the California State Coach of the Year and the Orange County Register’s Coach of the Year in 2007, according to the email.
“He is known for his tremendous work both on and off the field and led Cypress to a CIF-Southern Section’s Southern Division championship,” the email read.
The Barons finished this past season 4-7, 1-4 in the Sunset League.
