Driver cleared in fatal crash with cyclist
Police cleared the driver involved in a September crash that killed a 29-year-old cyclist, police said Wednesday.
Sarah Leaf, a nutritionist from Corona del Mar, died Sept. 14 after a crash at Bayside Drive and East Coast Highway, authorities said at the time.
In their investigation, police found that Leaf lost control of her bike when making a right turn onto Bayside Drive. Leaf and the truck’s driver turned in the same direction at the same time, and Leaf fell under the truck before it ran over her, according to department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.
Lowe said drugs or alcohol were not a fact in the crash, and nothing indicated the bike and truck made contact before Leaf fell.
The driver in the incident was not cited.
