Arrest made in connection with home break-in
An Aliso Viejo man has been arrested in connection with a recent home break-in on Mar Vista Way.
John Thomas Salazar, 18, was arrested Oct. 25 on suspicion of possessing stolen property, Capt. Jason Kravetz said in an email.
Suspects reportedly broke into a Mar Vista Way home Oct. 19, while the resident was on vacation. The suspects had a party inside the home, which neighbors observed, leading them to call the resident, police said. The victim was out of the country and did not receive his voicemail until his return. A neighbor also reported seeing a juvenile suspect drive the resident’s cars, a Ford SUV and Maserati, according to police.
The victim reported that his house was a mess when he returned — broken items, empty alcohol bottles and dirty dishes strewn about. He valued the loss of stolen items at $11,000.
Last week detectives received a tip that one of the male suspects had the victim’s jewelry in his possession. When they went to the suspect’s home, his father told officers that he had found the jewelry in his son’s room and put it in the family’s safe. He turned over the stolen items to police, Kravetz said.
Kravetz said Salazar is the only suspect and the other male isn’t suspected of stealing anything.
