H.B. man charged with murder in Costa Mesa stabbing
A man accused of stabbing another man to death in Costa Mesa after discovering him asleep in his girlfriend’s home was scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
Adolph Guadalupe Mireles, 38, of Huntington Beach is charged with one count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for use of a personal weapon, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said Mireles visited the Atlanta Way home of his girlfriend, Madelyn Isabel Martinez, 43, where he saw Robert Liken, 43, sleeping on the couch and instigated a fight with him Sept. 4. During the fight, Mireles armed himself with a knife and stabbed Liken multiple times, according to the D.A.’s office.
Costa Mesa police arrested Mireles on Wednesday in Santa Fe Springs. Prosecutors said he hid in motels around Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs and Buena Park.
Martinez faces charges for allegedly helping Mireles evade police. She is charged with one felony count of accessory after the crime.
Another man, Balraj Singh, 41, of Northridge, also faces charges for helping Mireles hide, prosecutors said. Singh faces one felony count of accessory after the crime.
If Mireles is convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
Martinez and Singh could each face a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, Mireles had not yet entered a plea.
