Laguna police to staff extra officers for Labor Day weekend
The Laguna Beach Police Department is stepping up its patrol staff over Labor Day weekend.
During certain holiday weekends throughout the year, the police saturate the city with more officers in an effort to identify DUI drivers and help combat alcohol-related crashes, according to a news release from the department.
The extra officers will patrol Friday through Sunday.
Police hope knowing about the ramped-up enforcement will deter people from drinking and driving.
Police recommend residents plan how they will get home before going out for the night; designate a sober driver; call taxis or friends for rides; call 911 to report suspected drunk drivers; and take the keys away from friends who are impaired, according to the release.
Funding for the extra patrols is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
