4 firefighters hurt in Newport fire
Four firefighters were injured battling a condominium fire at Newport Crest Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
A Newport firefighter was treated and released from Hoag Hospital. Two firefighters from Costa Mesa and one from Newport were treated at the scene, according to the NBFD.
The injured firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and burns.
Firefighters fought the fire for more than two hours Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
A fire in one unit of the building on Odyssey Court spread to two neighboring units about 1:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Newport Beach Police Sgt. Kirk Jacobi and the Newport Beach Fire Department.
The fire appeared to be accidental, and originated on the balcony of one of the units before it spread to the attic and other neighboring units, the department said.
The Fire Department estimated the damage to be $150,000.
Smoke billowing from the Newport Crest condominiums was visible from the bay, as well as West Newport.
