A Fountain Valley man was arrested last week and charged with forcibly raping a 10-year-old girl, committing lewd acts against another girl the same age and possessing child pornography, according to a release from the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Donald Roy Shipley, 71, faces multiple felony counts and one misdemeanor count as well as a sentencing enhancement allegation for committing a sexual offense against more than one victim. He faces a maximum of 40 years and eight months to life in state prison if convicted and is being held on $1-million bail, according to the release.

Shipley’s arraignment was scheduled for Thursday at the West Justice Center in Westminster, but continued to Aug. 10.

According to the release, Shipley lived with an adult female and young female relative at the time of the alleged crimes. He is accused of raping the first girl in 2008 at his home when she came to visit his young relative.

The next year, Shipley is accused of committing lewd acts against another 10-year-old girl who lived in his neighborhood and possessing pornographic photographs of her. The release does not specify what the lewd acts were.

Shipley, whom the Fountain Valley Police Department began investigating in May 2011, is accused of possessing more than a dozen pornographic images of girls between the approximate ages of 10 and 13, most of which appeared to be taken in his home, according to the release.

The district attorney’s office and Police Department have asked anyone with additional information to contact Det. Jesse Hughes at (714) 593-4480 or Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at (714) 347-8794.
