Stolen vehicle report nets drug-related arrestsPolice were led to two Orange County men after a resident reported suspicious behavior and a possible stolen vehicle in the 900 block of Catalina Street on May 23.

Anthony Lawrence Kushner, 31, of Anaheim and Beau Joseph Lawson, 32, of Fullerton were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, according to Laguna police Lt. Jason Kravetz.

A resident reported that she thought two men were attempting to steal a car. She said she saw the men trying to open car doors before getting into a Toyota Yaris and driving off.

When she called police, Kushner and Lawson were stopped by officers on Seaview Street, according to Kravetz.

While talking to the men, who denied illegal activity, officers noticed visible drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, such as burned tin foil, straws, a marijuana pipe and burnt plastic forms.

A K-9 from the Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and searched the car, stopping at the air conditioning vents, which turned out to be hiding black tar heroin, according to police.

Truck driver arrested on suspicion of DUI

A man was reportedly slumped over the wheel of a truck in the middle of the 200 block of Anita Street on May 24.

Officers arrived to find the truck with the engine still running, according to Laguna police Lt. Jason Kravetz. The driver appeared to passed out from intoxication.

Kevin Christopher Jones, 37, of El Dorado was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an investigation.

Police: Memorial Day weekend arrests see no increase

Laguna Beach police reported that the number of DUI arrests and traffic collisions, compared to 2011, did not go up over the four-day weekend.

Lt. Jason Kravetz said the city had 12 DUI arrests and 10 car accidents, amounts identical to last year.
