A Colorado man is suspected of pushing a woman down a flight of stairs, severely injuring her during an argument Sunday.

Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Mermaid Street to two calls about a woman being pushed down stairs, according to a Laguna Beach Police Department press release.

One of the callers turned out to be the suspect, Rudy James McEntire, 34. He was arrested on one felony count of battery.

The woman, 55, suffered facial and arm fractures. She also had head injuries and facial lacerations, according to the release. She was taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, and police said she’s expected to survive.

According to interviews with witnesses and McEntire, the female victim accused the suspect of “hitting on” her sister and she became upset. Police said the sister’s boyfriend had recently died.

The suspect then allegedly pushed the woman down the stairs in response to the victim kicking him in the groin, police said.

McEntire was booked at the police department, but he posted the $25,000 bail and was released, according to the release. A court date is pending.
