Police: Man shot at occupied building
An armed and reportedly drunken man shot at an occupied building early Wednesday morning in Costa Mesa shortly after failing to rob a bar, authorities said.
No one was hurt.
Ryan Matthew Stimbert, 37, allegedly attempted to rob the Avalon Bar, 820 W. 19th St., at about 1 a.m. He was brandishing a large, scoped handgun in front of several patrons before leaving without any money, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Police said Stimbert drove about 300 feet to the 1900 block of Placentia Avenue, where he allegedly fired his revolver into a building occupied by two employees.
Avalon Bar patrons reported hearing shots fired.
Police arrested Stimbert in the immediate area and learned he worked nearby, police said.
Officers later determined that he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and went to Avalon after being kicked out of another bar.
As of Wednesday morning, Stimbert was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail on suspicion of attempted robbery, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and brandishing a firearm, police said.
