Vogue Salon offers makeovers to shelter residents

The recently opened Laguna Beach Vogue Salon is partnering with the Friendship Shelter to host a Career Makeover Day on April 22.

Salon owner Antonietta Bianchini said she loves the salon’s location in the HIP District, and she wants to get involved with community efforts, according to a news release. The salon will start with career day makeovers for Friendship Shelter residents.

“I want to offer the residents of the shelter the opportunity to look their best so they will have the best chances of finding a job and getting their lives on track,” Bianchini said in a statement. “When people know that others care about their success, they are encouraged to do their best to achieve their goals.”

Career Makeover Day is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 at the salon, 1200 S. Coast Hwy.

The salon is also hosting a clothing and food drive.

Laguna dentist honored with service award

A Laguna Beach dentist has earned a prestigious recognition from the Academy of General Dentistry, according to a news release.

Nicholas C. Davis has been awarded the 2012 Lifelong Learning & Service Recognition (LLSR).

To earn this honor, Davis completed at least 1,600 hours of dental education in 16 different dental disciplines, according to the release. He has also been active in volunteering in his community, mentoring associates and more.

“Recipients of the LLSR are true leaders among our organization and wholly embrace the AGD’s core principles and ideals,” AGD President Howard Gamble, said in a statement. “For Dr. Davis, this award symbolizes a career of excellence in dentistry and demonstrates the characteristics of a role model to his fellow dentists and to members of the community.”

Davis currently practices in Newport Beach. He and his wife, Kiki, and two children live in Laguna Beach.

Updates from the city manager

The city of Laguna Beach has added a two-acre parcel to its existing inventory of open space, according to the weekly update from City Manager John Pietig.

The parcel is known as the McGraw property, and it’s located at 8 Castle Rock Way in Laguna Canyon.

It is at a high elevation, making it a nice viewshed in the canyon. It also features a coastal scrub habitat.

The $325,000 acquisition was made possible by a Proposition 12 grant from the California Coastal Conservancy.

In other city news:

•The Laguna Beach County Water District donated a 66-gallon rain barrel, which has been installed underneath a City Hall rain gutter. Attached to the barrel is a spigot and hose, so collected water can be used to water nearby plants.

•The city has rolled out its new Citizen Access Portal, which will help residents have continuous online access to city government.

The web portal will provide 24-hour access to community development services. Citizens can check on the status of permits, municipal code violations, inspection scheduling and more.

Local’s Night at Katsuya extended through May

Katsuya by S+ARCK in Laguna Beach is extending its Local’s Night discount through May 28, the restaurant announced this week.

Every Monday, Laguna Beach locals will receive 50% off their bill. The promotion had been scheduled to stop at the end of March.

Laguna Realtor lauded for her success

Laguna Beach Realtor Shauna Covington received the Pinnacle Award for 2011 as one of the top 10 Prudential agents in North America, according to a news release.

The award was given at Prudential’s National Sales Convention in Orlando last month.

Covington, who has worked at Prudential Laguna Beach for more almost a decade, also won Prudential’s Circle Diamond award, which ranks her in the top half of 1% of agents nationwide.

“In real estate, it is essential to analyze and research a variety of options in order to create an ideal solution,” Covington said in a statement. “To ensure my clients receive a high standard of service, I listen carefully to their needs and view every situation from their perspective.”

Covington also serves as a director on the Laguna Board of Realtors.
