Lucille Hurst Thomas

Thomas, Lucille Hurst, born July 29, 1912, passed away peacefully at her home on March 9, 2012. She was 99 years old.

Born and raised in Greencastle, Indiana, Lucy attended St. Elizabeth College to earn her degree in Nursing. She moved to Pasadena in 1943. She settled in Corona del Mar in 1957, where she was a nurse at Hoag Hospital while raising her two children.

Lucy enjoyed performing the hula and playing ukulele at the Oasis Senior Center. Her love of Hawaiian culture earned her the nickname “Honolulu Lucy” and her grandchildren lovingly called her “Tutu”. Lucy had a “green thumb” and delighted in growing tropical flowers and tending to her garden.

A special thanks to Else, Lou, Yvonne and Melinda. The family extends their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care they showed to Lucy for many years.

Lucy will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jack George (Dana Point) and son and daughter-in-law Jim and Valerie Pierce (Boise, ID). She was treasured by her nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at Pacific View Memorial Park, located at 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, CA 92625.
