Remodeled Fashion Island theater opens Friday
The remodeled Island Cinema at Fashion Island will open to the general public Friday with a 12:30 p.m. screening of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”
The Irvine Co.-owned, seven-screen theater complex now features state-of-the-art technology, stadium seating, roomy leather seats and the option of in-theater dining, among other amenities, Irvine Co. officials said in a news release.
The facility near Nordstrom on the Island Terrace closed a year ago for an overhaul.
The project was part of the second phase of the company’s upgrade to Fashion Island, said Irvine Co. spokeswoman Erin Freeman.
Moviegoers will be able to reserve seats and watch movies via Sony 4K projection technology, which produces resolution four times more vivid than that of the most sophisticated high-definition television sets, Irvine Co. officials said. Four of the seven theaters are equipped with 3-D movie projection capability.
“We are excited to unveil a truly spectacular theater complex for the holiday movie season,” Dan Sheridan, president of the Irvine Co.’s Retail Properties division, said in a prepared statement.
Food at the theater includes
sandwiches, pizzas, quiches, vegetarian spring rolls, pastries and other items. Specialty coffee, espresso drinks, beer, champagne and wine will also be available.
