16 Irvine students win Merit Scholarships
Sixteen Irvine high school seniors will receive scholarships from their intended colleges, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced Wednesday.
The college-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners will receive between $500 and $2,000 for up to four years of school at the university offering the award.
USC awarded scholarships to University High School students Shannon Cheng, Hye H. Bahng, Vincent Hsu, Kevin H. Ngai, Youngjee Oh, Sunny Sun, Kalyn L. Reddy; Woodbridge High School’s Sean C. Phillips; Irvine High School’s Hayoung Baik, Thomas H. Dang, Alan J. Hung, Daniel Jin Lee; Northwood High School’s Michael Lee; and Arnold O. Beckman High School’s Engie A. Salama.
Northwestern University awarded scholarships to Northwood’s Vivian Z. Chiu and Jessica K. Yang.
The winners were pulled from the National Merit Scholarship finalists by each institution. More scholarship winners will be announced in July.
