Thurston hosts Noon Sports
Two weeks a month, Thurston Middle School students get to participate in Noon Sports, a program devised by Thurston physical education teacher Michael Bair.
The idea is for students to learn that fitness and organized sports can be fun. There’s a wide variety of choices, from ping pong and flag football to basketball and dodgeball.
The school’s leadership class has been preparing for the monthly event with posters and school announcements. Bair said students come up to him frequently, enthusiastic about the program.
“Students learn good sportsmanship, make new friendships and build lifelong fitness skills,” Principal Joanne Culverhouse said in a statement.
Another plus? The winning student team gets to take on the teachers.

Kids stay healthy at Boys & Girls Club
The TLC branch of the Boys & Girls Club is teaching kids how to eat healthfully and stay fit with its Healthy Kids Club on Thursdays.
Club members keep a food diary, learn how to make the right choices and perform a state fitness standard each week. Besides keeping fit at the club, they get to hang out around Laguna Beach, learning how to enjoy their city in a healthy way. They’ve played football, soccer, gone to the beach and are arranging a hike in Aliso Canyon.

Free SAT prep at LBHS
On Saturday, students can take a free SAT or ACT test at Laguna Beach High School, provided by the Princeton Review.
Although sophomores and juniors are most encouraged to attend, LBHS is also asking freshman to consider taking the practice test because research shows that increased exposure to the test and format can improve their future scores.
To sign up, call (949) 497-7750.
