Child-care center hosting fundraiser
The Canyon View Child Development Center in Irvine is hosting a fundraiser Friday.
Local vendors will be present, along with staff, faculty and parents, to raise awareness about the plight facing child care and development programs.
“Being that child care is currently facing budget cuts that could potentially result in the loss of after-school care for many children and families in the state of California, I know that a forum and event such as this one would be a perfect opportunity to get the word out to people in this area, who may believe that these changes would not affect them,” site supervisor Jenn Kinkel wrote in an e-mail.
Canyon View is one of 19 child development centers in Irvine, which are private, nonprofit child-care agencies that provide services to infants, preschoolers and schoolchildren.
Child Development Inc., the umbrella organization that runs the centers, operates 166 early care and education centers in California and serves more than 15,000 children.
Staff encourages the public, especially interested families, to attend and get to know the center. The event is from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
“[The fundraiser] stemmed from a desire to connect on a deeper, more authentic level with the families at the center and the community we serve,” Kinkel said.
Canyon View Child Development Center is at 12025 Yale Court in Irvine.
