The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner has identified the body found in a blue pickup truck in Huntington Beach on Friday.

Daniel Kevin Thompson, 41, was a Westminster resident, said Jim Amormino, the Sheriff Department’s spokesman said Tuesday.

Thompson’s body was found with a bag over its head and a tube connected to a device. The body was inside a truck on the southwest side of Goldenwest Street and Edinger Avenue, Fire Department Capt. Chuck Thomas said Friday.

Thompson appeared to have committed suicide, Amormino said.

At first, police believed the tube was connected to an ice chest. They then contacted the Fire Department’s hazardous material team, Orange County Health Care Agency and Orange County Sheriff’s bomb squad to search the truck, Thomas said.

It was later determined that the tube was not connected to the ice chest, but to another device that Thomas could not disclose, he said. Police are still looking to determine whether the device contained hazardous materials, but it does not pose a threat to the public, Thomas said.

About 9 a.m. Friday, police received calls of a suspicious vehicle. The truck’s windows was fully covered with sunshades, Thomas said.

The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner will continue its investigation, Amormino said.
