Anteaters’ 14U Girls Reach TruWest Cup Final
The Anteater 14U Girls Water Polo Team reached the Championship game of the TruWest Cup tournament this past weekend. The Anteater Girls put forth a great performance in the final before falling to a strong Capo Valley team 8-6. The Anteaters fell behind 5-2 after the first period but battled back to tie the score 6-6 in the third period before Capo Valley pulled ahead for good. It was a great weekend of water polo for the girls as they defeated United, CDM and Huntington Beach on their way to the Gold Division finale. Brianna Daboub, Eliza Britt, Maddie Musselman, Avery Warwick, Ellie Reid, Kampbell Gritsch, Shannon Frome, Grace Morgan, Anja Phillips, Morgan Paduano, Marina Coskinas, Heidi Ritner and Maddie Lanfried all contributed to the team’s victories in reaching the final game, which was played at the Woollett Aquatics Complex in Irvine on Sunday afternoon. The TruWest Cup Tournament involves boys’ and girls’ teams from all over Southern California in the 10U, 12U, and 14U age groups. The Anteater Club had boys’ and girls’ entries at all age levels. The Anteaters Club is led by UCI men’s water polo Head Coach, and 2009 MPSF Coach of the Year, Marc Hunt. The Club’s program director is former UCI player Jesse Briggs and is supported by a staff that includes former men’s national team player Dreason Barry, current men’s national team goalie Genai Kerr, former Women’s Junior National Team and USC standout Marina Mayer and Long Beach State star Nadine Akers.
