COSTA MESA — Senior pitcher Mark DeFrenza pitched a complete game shutout, striking out nine, while allowing three hits and one walk in the Eagles’ season opener that came in the Newport Elks Tournament.
Sophomore left fielder Alex Trancoso went two for three with a double. Junior designated hitter Victor Trujillio was two for three with a run batted in. Tyler Rios, a freshman shortstop, also had an RBI for the Eagles.
Costa Mesa 15, Schurr 1
COSTA MESA — Ryan Boulger hit two home runs and had five runs batted for the Mustangs in the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.
Brandon Kelly went four for four with two doubles and three RBIs in Costa Mesa’s season opener, while Brian Waldron was three for four with three RBIs. Pitcher Tyler Peterson struck out five and allowed three hits and one run in six innings.

BREA — Matt Carpenter was three for four with two doubles for the Sailors to open the season and the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.
Austin Wobrock was two for four with a double, and Jacob McCann was also two for two with a sacrifice fly.

RIVERSIDE — Senior catcher Beau Attyah had two hits, including a two-run home run for the Sea Kings in the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.
Pitcher Eric Morris allowed three hits and two in five innings. MLK scored seven runs in the sixth to rally for the win.

COSTA MESA — Kohl Jones had 16 kills for the Eagles in a nonleague match Friday.
Saddleback won, 25-23, 25-13, 27-25.
Jim Nelson had eight kills for Estancia (1-1).
