Student booked after bomb scare
The student who was found with a suspicious-looking device that led to an evacuation at Huntington Beach High School on Wednesday has been booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall.
According to Lt. Russell Reinhart of the Huntington Beach Police Department, the male student was booked on suspicion of possession of a facsimile of a bomb and making criminal threats. A residence in the 2400 block of Delaware Street was also searched following the incident.
The student, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, was sent to the principal’s office about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after he was reported to have fireworks. Administrators found another device in his possession and contacted the police and Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The department’s bomb squad examined the device while students and staff were evacuated from the school. Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said the device turned out to be a “hoax” and contained no explosives.
