Sounding Off: Sawdust management is strong
As a Sawdust exhibitor I have recently fielded questions from many in our community who are concerned about the future of the festival.
This is due to recent letters harshly criticizing the Sawdust Festival Board of Directors and the general manager. I feel it is necessary to set the record straight.
The festival is alive and strong, and is still full of the artistry and optimism that make it so special. In fact, we owe a great deal of its vitality in this dire economy to the hard work and dedication of its board and manager.
The Sawdust Festival holds an annual election for selection of board officers. This is a democratic process. The board is serving due to the support of the majority of the voting Sawdust members.
It is normal and expected that not everyone agrees with the outcome of an election. But each election allows one the opportunity to work a little harder to seat a candidate that will help foster their views. It is a fair process.
So to all of my friends and neighbors, I invite you to come on down to the Sawdust Festival this summer.
Bring your visiting house guests. You will find a vibrant and dynamic show, bustling with energy and creativity. Stop by and introduce yourself.
As timing permits, I will gladly give a tour of our beautiful grounds, show you the daily events scheduled for you and your children’s participation, and introduce you to many of the talented artists exhibiting and demonstrating their fine work.
I hope to see you this summer!
