Checkpoint at Dover and 16th
Newport Beach police will be conducting a DUI checkpoint from 9 tonight to 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police will be stopping drivers on northbound Dover Drive at 16th Street. Department officials picked the location because of its proximity to bars and restaurants.
Drivers asked to stop will receive a brochure on driving under the influence created by the department’s traffic division. While checkpoints don’t automatically lead to more arrests, police said they do tend to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road.
Funding for the checkpoint came through the state Office of Traffic Safety.
